EXAMPLE CLUSTER OPTION FOR SOCIAL SCIENCES MAJOR
If you're majoring in a discipline in the social sciences or humanities but would like to be knowledgeable about environmental issues, you can choose the Biodiversity and Ecosystems cluster or the Water Resources cluster of the minor.
Step 1. Introductory course
For example, a student from the humanities took Earth 100 Environment Earth and realized she really enjoyed the study of environmental sciences.
Step 2. Nine credits from cluster courses
She chose cluster option A: Living on Earth: Biodiversity and Ecosystems and selected these three courses to fulfill the requirements of cluster A:
- STS 201 Climate Change, Energy and Biodiversity
- BIOL 220W Biology: Populations and Communities
- BIOL 499A Tropical Field Ecology
A landscape architecture student was really interested in environmental issues related to water and chose the Water resources option of the minor (cluster option E: Wet and Wild), by taking these three courses:
- GEOG 410 Geography of Water Resources
- BIOL 435 Ecology of Lakes and Streams
- CE 361 Engineering Hydrology
Step 3. Additional 3 credit course
Step three would be to choose an additional 400-level environmentally related course outside the college and disciplinary group of your major.
Step 4. Final course
To wrap up the minor's requirements for your final course you could choose, for example:
